Job summary

We are looking for a friendly, organised, and proactive Receptionist/Administrator to join our busy and supportive General Practice team. This is a key front-line role where you will be the first point of contact for our patients, providing a professional and welcoming service both in person and over the phone.

Working in a fast-paced but friendly environment, you will play an important part in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. While previous GP experience and knowledge of EMIS Web would be an advantage, full training will be provided for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

    Job responsibilities

    The Receptionist/Administrator is responsible for providing a high-quality, patient-focused reception and administrative service within the practice. As the first point of contact, the post holder will ensure all patients and visitors receive a courteous, efficient, and professional service.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Greet patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
    • Answer incoming telephone calls, dealing with enquiries efficiently and appropriately
    • Book, amend, and cancel patient appointments using the clinical system
    • Register new patients and maintain accurate patient records
    • Process prescriptions in line with practice procedures
    • Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails and letters
    • Support clinicians and the wider practice team with administrative tasks
    • Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times in line with GDPR and practice policies
    • Manage patient queries and direct them to the appropriate service or clinician
    • Ensure the reception area is kept tidy and presentable

    • Good IT skills and ability to learn new systems
    • Flexible approach to work, including covering holidays and sickness
    • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure

    Desirable

    • Previous experience working in a GP surgery or healthcare setting
    • Familiarity with EMIS Web clinical system
