We are seeking a motivated and experienced Primary Care General Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team at Larksfield and Arlesey Medical Partnership.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for delivering a wide range of nursing services to the practice population, including:

  • Cervical cytology (smears)

  • Childhood immunisations, including baby immunisations

  • Travel vaccinations and advice

  • Wound care and dressings

  • Chronic disease management (where appropriate)

  • Health promotion and screening activities

  • Infection prevention and control

The nurse will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and efficient patient care. The role also involves maintaining accurate clinical records and adhering to practice policies and procedures.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary

The post holder will work as part of the primary healthcare team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to the practice population. The role includes health promotion, disease prevention, screening, and management of patients with both acute and chronic conditions.

The nurse will be responsible for a range of clinical duties, ensuring care is delivered in accordance with practice protocols and national guidelines set by NHS England.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties
  • Cervical cytology (smears) in line with national screening programmes

  • Administration of childhood immunisations, including baby immunisations

  • Travel health advice and administration of travel vaccinations

  • Wound care management, including dressings and leg ulcer care

  • Undertaking health checks and NHS health screening

  • Supporting patients with long-term conditions (e.g. diabetes, asthma, COPD) where appropriate

  • Administering injections and medications in accordance with Patient Group Directions (PGDs) or prescriptions

  • Infection prevention and control, including maintaining clinical standards

Patient Care
  • Provide holistic, patient-centred care

  • Promote health education and self-care to patients

  • Support patients in making informed decisions about their health

  • Maintain patient dignity, confidentiality, and respect at all times

Administrative Duties
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous patient records using clinical systems

  • Ensure all documentation complies with legal and professional standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
