Job summary

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced locum nurseto join our team on a temporary basis. This role requires a dynamic and flexible nursing professional who is passionate about delivering high-quality patient care and supporting the development of our student nurse. The successful candidate will work alongside our team and support a student nurse currently in placement, requiring alignment with the students rota where possible. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute both clinically and educationally in a supportive healthcare environment.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct patient care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and care plans.

  • Perform various health checks

  • Monitor patient progress and report any concerns to the relevant clinical team members.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, holistic, and patient-centred care.

  • Accurately complete patient records and documentation.

  • Supervise and support a student nurse on placement, providing guidance, feedback, and mentorship.

  • Ensure practice is in line with current clinical standards and infection control protocols.

  • Maintain a flexible working approach to align with the student nurses rota and maximise learning opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Active NMC registration (RGN/RMN/RNLD).

  • Completion of the SSSA (Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment) training.

  • At least 3 + years of post-qualification experience in a clinical setting.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • A flexible approach to shift scheduling, including willingness to adjust working days to match student nurse placements.

  • Up-to-date mandatory training, DBS check, and immunisation record.

  • Experience in primary care setting

Undertake health screening and NHS Health Checks in accordance with current guidelines.

Provide travel health advice and administer vaccinations in line with current travel protocols.

Provide care and support to patients with complex needs, including the frail elderly and those with multiple co-morbidities.

Take samples, such as swabs and bloods

Administer medications and injections under patient-specific or patient group directions (PSDs/PGDs).

Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical records in accordance with legal and professional standards.

  • Essential Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid and active NMC registration.
  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution.
  • Evidence of post-registration training relevant to primary care nursing (e.g., immunisations, cervical cytology).
  • Up-to-date certification in Practical Basic Life Support (BLS) and anaphylaxis training.
  • Completion of Safeguarding training (adults and children) Level 3
  • Completion of SSSA (Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment) training to supervise student nurses.
  • Strong awareness of public health priorities and patient education techniques
  • Demonstrable CPD activity in line with NMC revalidation requirements.

Desirable

  • Certification in Travel Health
  • Experience supporting or supervising student nurses or junior staff.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 year post-registration experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in primary care, general practice, or community nursing.
  • Proven experience in delivering treatment room services, including:
  • Wound care and dressings
  • Immunisations (adult and child)
  • Cervical cytology
  • Health screenings
  • Experience providing health promotion, lifestyle advice, and patient education.
  • Familiarity with clinical documentation systems and electronic patient records eg EMIS Web
  • Experience with NHS health checks, vaccination campaigns, or screening programmes.
  • Experience working autonomously within a clinical scope while also functioning as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience adhering to infection prevention and control, safeguarding, and health & safety standards in a clinical setting.

Desirable

  • Involvement in Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) delivery and achievement.
  • Experience in delivering specialist clinics (e.g., diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, weight management, family planning).
