Job summary

Exciting opportunity for an experienced Practice Nurse to join our friendly East London general practice. You will join a team of Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants and will undertake all aspects of the practice nurse role including cervical screening, baby immunisations and chronic disease management.

We are an innovative 2 partner practice based in Leyton, East London serving practice population of over 10,000 patients.

Experience in General Practice is essential. We encourage informal visits to our Centre.

Main duties of the job

  • To be Infection prevention lead
  • The practice nurse will be responsible for a number of clinical areas such as health promotion, chronic disease management, health prevention, as well as supporting the management team in the reviewing of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Initiating and maintaining health screening and promotion clinics for identified areas of the practice population, recognising where modification of systems or referral is necessary.
  • Managing the nursing care of patients with chronic disease, employing personal recall systems suitable to the practice needs. This includes using the practice computer systems for input of information for recall and screening purposes.
  • Providing specialist care for registered patients in the following key areas: IPC, Asthma, Hypertension, Diabetes, COPD, Cervical Smears, Contraception, Baby immunisations.
  • Providing routine treatment in general clinics, including: Wound Management, Blood tests, and ECGs.

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • UK Registered nurse with NMC; Minimum 2 years post registration; Experience working in General Practice setting; Demonstrate an understanding of audit; Cervical Cytology; Child and Adult immunisations; Care of Long Term Conditions (LTCs); Experienced in Wound care.

    Desirable

    • Undertaken mentorship training; Trained in Anti-coagulation.

    • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) Strong IT skills; Clear, polite telephone manner; Competent in the use of Office and Outlook; IT skills (EMIS, MS Office, Internet); Interpersonal skills; Time Management and timekeeping; Knowledge of clinical governance; Ability to work as a team member and autonomously; Good interpersonal skills; Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure.

    Desirable

    • UK Registered nurse with NMC; Minimum 2 years post registration; Experience working in General Practice setting; Good interpersonal skills, both verbal and written; Evidence of problem-solving and decision making skills; Good team player; Ability to be reflective, accept criticism and act constructively.
