Job summary
We are looking for a new member of staff to join our dispensary team at Downton Surgery
The successful candidate will be highly motivated team player with a Qualification to NVQ level or an equivalent dispensing qualification, with dispensing experience.
You must have excellent communication and computer skills and have the ability to work in a fast passed environment while remaining enthusiastic and self-motivated.
A DBS check will be required.
Main duties of the job
Take requests for prescription repeats
Assembling prescription items for dispensing
Issuing stock items and prepared prescriptions
Collection of charges for prescriptions and private treatment/checking patient exemption statements
Cash handling
Remove out of date stock from shelves, refrigerator and dispose of accordingly
Disposal of returned, unused medications
Ordering appropriate quantities of goods via the wholesalers computer link.

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Dispenser. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workloadand staffing levels:
- To be responsible for checking all medicines dispensed, ensuring there are no discrepancies
- Dispensing medicines to the entitled population safely and accurately
- Collecting prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol
- Maintaining stock levels within the dispensary, liaising with the dispensary manager to facilitate reordering
- Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable
- Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed in accordance with practice policy
- Safe disposal of returned and/or out of date medicines
- Ensuring all repeat prescriptions are processed within the practices published time frame
- Providing patients with advice regarding all prescription matters
- Process prescription requests via online and repeat prescription slips
- Processing MDS Trays
- Assisting in the preparation of monthly returns
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times
- Maintain accurate records at all times, read coding entries appropriately
