Health Care Assistant at Caerffynnon Surgery Dolgellau.
To assist the GPs and Practice Nursing team in the service and delivery of care management for the practice population.
The role is 20 hours a week, 8 - 12 Monday - Friday. We are looking for a enthusiastic and dynamic team player who communicates effectively with patients, carers, and team members. Training is provided on site, also electronically.
108 hours annual leave a year or 5.4 weeks.
NHS Pension which is optional.
Effective documentation skills to record activities undertaken with patients using the computer.
Maintain confidentiality.
Improve the effectiveness of the services that the surgery offers.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role are,
Undertake, record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training.
Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the Pathology lab.
Measuring and recording following physiological measurements in routine presentation:
Blood pressure
Pulse Rate and Rhythm
Temperature
Height, weight and Body mass Index
Visual Acuity
ECG
Glucose Tolerance Test
Helicobacter Tolerance Test
Support and monitor patients during nebulisation therapy.
Prepare and maintain the working environment and equipment.
Give accurate health information to patients and groups.
To administer the influenza vaccines under indirect supervision of a regulated professional.
Basic Life Support
Assist with child immunisation clinics.
Covid and flu clinics (annually)
Produce blood forms
Use of the Centrifuge.
Other clinical responsibilities.
About us
Caerffynnon Surgery is a team of three GP,s three ANP's two Practice Nurses and currently two Health Care Assistants. There are also three reception staff and four administration staff. We are a team that encourage and support each other.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be, on occasions, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Undertake new patient health checks.
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes.
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly.
- Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
- Carry out BMI checks as directed.
- Act as a chaperone as required.
- Venepuncture
- Flu vaccinations and Covid clinics
- Carry out ECGs as requested.
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
- Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with guidance.
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy.
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Healthcare Assistant may be requested to:
- Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.
- Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation.
