Job summary

We are excited to be looking for a dynamic individual who has excellent strategic vision, financial experience, problem solving and communication skills to enable us to drive forward and help Peaseway Medical Centre continue to thrive.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide robust conscientious leadership and have a sound knowledge of strategic business management, financial planning and HR. You will be expected to manage and coordinate all aspects of practice functionality, motivating and managing staff, optimising efficient, financial performance and oversee all daily operations. You will set the direction along with the partners for the practice to maximise income and efficiency, manage budgets and achieve long-term strategic objectives. You will have the support of an established Assistant Practice Manager who will assist with much of the day to day operational responsibilities but you will be responsible for all financial management and representing the practice externally.

About us

We are a GP and medical student Training Practice of 12,200 patients in Newton Aycliffe with a staff of 46 clinical and administrative employees led by two GP partners, a Practice Manager and assistant PM. We require a friendly, empathic and approachable individual who will help us continue to deliver high quality compassionate care to our patients whilst maintaining a positive atmosphere for our capable and respected staff.

The nature of the job is extremely broad and defies precise definition, but can generally be divided into:

Strategic management & planning identifying opportunities for income generation, managing external contracts.

Financial management using Sage payroll, pensions, budget forecasts, cashflow, liaising with accountants, insurances, practice bank account management.

Recruitment and HR (clinical and admin) -appraisals, absence management, succession planning. Managing staff recruitment and retention

Manage patient services overview of clinic provision, dealing with patients including complaints. Health and Safety management. Data governance compliance.

Communication internally and externally building relationships with partners locally, regionally and ensuring readiness for CQC.

  • Educated to degree or equivalent level in healthcare management, business or accountancy
  • Excellent literacy, numeracy and IT skills
  • Higher level Accountancy and / or Financial Management Qualification desirable

Experience

  • Experience in use of Sage accounting and payroll software, cashflow and high level budget management
  • Experience of managing staff both clinical and administrative, running appraisals and communicating effectively on a day to day basis
  • Experience of dealing with the general public and managing potential discord or unrealistic expectations
  • NHS management experience
  • Proactive approach to new opportunities
  • Open minded problem solver, able to take ideas forward and make them work
  • Strong generic IT skills/strong communication/strong managerial skills
  • Ability to engage and motivate staff in a busy and sometimes challenging environment
  • Ability to handle many competing demands, work under pressure and prioritise accordingly
