Job summary

We are looking for someone to replace our retiring HCA who has been with us for over 15 years, we are a small surgery and that means we get to know our patients, we are looking for someone who likes to interact with patients some of them have been coming to us for many years and will want that extra special service, if you feel you can go the extra mile to make the patient feel special then this role could be for you.

Main duties of the job

A confident person who will work on their own but along side the practice nurse, ultimately if you apply as a phlebotomist to want to add to your skill set to do more to help the practice nurse or as a HCA to learn and improve your skills to include 24 hour ECGs, ECGs, dressings and bloods.

About us

We are a small local friendly practice with staff staying for many years, you need to be able to interact well with patients as they have also been with us for many years. We all try to ensure we keep the patients happy with a fast good friendly service. We have good links with other surgeries in our PCN and are well positioned in the heart of the town.

Job Title: Phlebotomist / HCA

Responsible to: Practice Nurse and Practice Manager

Summary

To provide a comprehensive and professional service within the surgery, whilst maintaining efficient organisational systems and ensuring effective communication at all times throughout the practice team. To take responsibility for the health and safety and confidentiality of the patients at all times.

To ensure you keep up to date with training, are aware of your responsibilities in regards to confidentiality, Information Governance, safeguarding, health & safety and infection control.

Knowledge, skills and experience

1. Confidentiality as per guidelines set by NHS Information Governance and the Caldicott principles

2. Ability to communicate efficiently with sympathy, clarity and courtesy

3. To be accurate

4. Have suitable training and willingness to keep training up to date

5. To have a positive attitude and willingness to any changes in job description, hours or days of work

General duties for both Phlebotomist and HCA

1. To greet patient, check patients details, ensure you and they know what blood test they are having

2. To label bottles and forms correctly

3. To use correct bottles

General duties for HCA

  1. Simple dressings discuss with nurse for type of dressing
  2. ECG take result to GP before patient leaves the surgery
  3. Spirometry put report into reception for scanning to a GP
  4. Disease management monitoring follow template on S1
  5. Tele-dermatology to take photos for patient referrals
  6. 24 hour ECG fitting and downloading
  7. Suture removal
  8. Ear syringing
