Job summary

We are looking for a medical receptionist to join an established, small friendly team at Hamilton Medical Centre. The position will be 19-27 hours per week to be worked over 2-3 days. The candidate must be flexible to work overtime and cover holidays/sickness at short notice when needed. The hours of work will be between 8am and 730pm over the days.

Ideally the candidates will have experience of working in general practice and using EMIS Web, however, this is not essential as full training will be given.

The candidates must be able to work in a small friendly team and most important have a good sense of humour!

We will not be able to hire any candidates that are patients or have immediate family as patients at our Practice.

On the very rare occasions you may be asked to work on a weekend.

Due to the expected high demand of applicants, we will only be contacting candidates we shortlist for interview, we may also close the advert early depending on high demand received.

Main duties of the job

You will be mainly working on the reception and dealing with patient queries in person and by telephone.

You will also perform various administrative duties.

Job summary:

Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

Job responsibilities:

Administration

To have a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures

To work in accordance of written protocols

Filing post in medical records

Fax and photocopy as requested

Deal with any other administration work allocated to you.

Reception

Receiving patients, consulting with members of practice team

Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address.

Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary

Appointments

Process appointment requests for today/future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.

Deal with visits/requests

Computer

Computer data entry and medical records

Process patients changes of address computer data and medical records

Process prescription requests in accordance with practice guidelines

Telephone

Deal with incoming calls

Deal with outgoing calls

Other Tasks

Clear rooms after surgeries

Ensure building security have thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm

Any other tasks allocated by managers

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards

Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised

Keeping own work areas and general/patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holders role

Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually)

Reporting potential risks identified

Demonstrate due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
