Job summary

Are you a highly motivated GP, with a strong work ethic, looking to join a dedicated and supportive Primary Care Team?

We are seeking to recruit a salaried GP, with potential for partnership in the future if desired. Six sessions preferred but negotiable for the right candidate.

As we adapt to new challenges, we are open to discuss different approaches to the GP role, such as a primarily admin or a non-listed salaried GP, while considering flexibility to cover. We encourage out-of-the-box thinking and welcome suggestions of alternative ways of working.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high quality patient care
  • Provide face to face and telephone consultations as required
  • Effectively utilise in house and external services when needed
  • Complete all clinical administration work related to patients seen
  • Work collaboratively and contribute to the management and completion of general clinical administration, including bloods, tasks, urgent enquiries, medical reports, etc.
  • Attend and contribute to clinical practice meetings as required
  • Ensure that each patient encounter is maximised to attain contractual target requirements

Norton Medical Centre is situated just off the A19 in Teesside, with its industrial heritage, framed with a striking coastline and picturesque moorland. We are a high achieving Practice, with a strong 40+ year history of teaching and training. Additional services include in-house Minor Operations and LARC services.

With a list size of approximately 16,700 patients, patients are cared for by a team of:

  • 7 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 2 Retainer GPs, and 2 Resident GPs
  • 1 Clinical Pharmacist, 1 Nurse Practitioner and 1 Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner
  • 6 Practice Nurses
  • 4 Health Care Assistants
  • Prescription Team, including two Pharmacy Technicians and three dispensing assistants
  • Excellent admin team
  • A range of hosted services including an Employment and Benefits Adviser

In addition to Practice Staff, patient have access to additional roles through Billingham and Norton Primary Care Network, including a team of Social Prescribing Link Workers, Health and Wellbeing Coaches, First Contact Practitioners, and a Mental Health Practitioner.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

- The post holder will undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, messages, investigations, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers.

- Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and offering preventative medical advice.

- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health and, if appropriate referring to other care providers.

- Providing counselling and health education.

- Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to accepted GMC standards.

- Recording data to support the Quality and Outcomes Framework targets and clinical audit activities.

- Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions(avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).

- Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

- In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other Responsibilities within the Organisation:

- Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.

- A commitment to life-long learning, audit and peer appraisal, to ensure evidence based best practice.

- Contributing to training of GP Registrars, medical students and the nursing team.

- Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the Practice, including monitoring and updating patient records for the purpose of QOF and enhanced services.

- Contributing to the upkeep of computer-based patient records.

- Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data.

- Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
