Job summary
The
post-holder is a Pharmacy Technician and
is an integral part of the general practice team, working within their
professional boundaries.
This
role will work under the supervision of the GP Partnerto ensure the
safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients.
The
Pharmacy Technician will provide
technical and administrative support to the clinicians.
The
Pharmacy Technician will support
the practice clinical teams with queries regarding medication from patients.
The Pharmacy Technician will complete audits regarding patient safety
in the prescribing of medication and present the information for sharing with
the clinical team.
The Pharmacy Technician supports public health and screening
programmes including immunisations and vaccination programmes whilst
participating in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes
and reduce health inequalities.
Main duties of the job
Support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new patients, particularly those entering care homes, ensuring accurate and safe prescribing records. Contribute to antimicrobial stewardship by assisting with audits and promoting appropriate antibiotic use in line with national guidance from NHS England.
Assist in delivering medicines optimisation programmes, incentive schemes, and patient safety audits. Support implementation of national prescribing policies within GP practices and care settings through clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and contributions to the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and enhanced services.
Work within the multidisciplinary team to improve medicines management, including efficient ordering, returns processes, and reducing waste. Support reception teams with prescription triage and manage routine prescription queries directly.
Promote electronic prescribing and safe repeat systems, including use of the Electronic Prescription Service, and ensure monitoring of high-risk medicines.
Provide training on the legal, safe handling of medicines and adhere to safeguarding legislation and practice policies. Develop collaborative relationships across primary, community, and secondary care.
Participate in audits, research, protocol development, complaints management, public health campaigns, clinical governance, mandatory training, and annual appraisal. Maintain a safe, tidy workspace and undertake additional duties as required.

We are a small and friendly GP practice located in Long Eaton, with excellent access to Nottingham or Derby or further afield, with junction 25 of the M1 being less than 2 miles away. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated GP to join our friendly and caring Practice as a Salaried GP.
We pride ourselves on being a well-established training practice providing general medical services for our practice list of 5800 patients. i.Develop relationships with other pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and members of the multi-disciplinary team to support integration of the pharmacy team across health and social care including primary care, community pharmacy, secondary care, and mental health
j.Be aware of duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children
k.Handle prescription queries and requests directly
