Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practice
Assistant (GPA) to join our team.
As part of our Long Terms Conditions team, you will help to
improve the medical care of patients by carrying out simple clinical
observations and investigations, such as dipstick, blood pressures, phlebotomy,
ECGs, vaccinations and immunisations, annual review tests and NHS health
checks. You will also be supporting our administrative team. This will involve
medical coding, regular clinical searches and review of LTC registers.
The role is flexible and responsive to the needs of the
business so there may be some variation in ratio of clinical to admin at
different times, e.g. to cover unplanned absence. The GPA is a new role, so we
are looking for someone who can adapt as the role evolves.
Previous experience in a health care setting is desirable,
although any required training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
The following are the core responsibilities of the General
Practice Assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other
tasks.
The work will be varied and dependent upon factors such as
workload and staffing levels.

Clinical services

- Conduct home visits as required.

restocking and ordering clinical supplies
Administration
- Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs
coding, summarising, and adding to notes.
- Support administration for the practice vaccination
programmes.
- Support achievement of QOF and Impact and Investment Fund
indicators by running regular clinical searches
The GPA must ensure that they work within and recognise
their scope of practice, escalating any concerns to a senior clinician as
appropriate.
Training and Education
- Participation in an annual individual
performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of
own personal and/or professional development
- Taking responsibility for own
development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities
to others who are undertaking similar work
- Attend all
relevant annual updates
- Inform the lead GP of any concerns
regarding GPA role and any professional development needed
- Be aware of own professional
boundaries and what to do when you have reached them
