Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Receptionist / Admin Clerk & Prescription Clerk to join our team. This is a varied and rewarding role that requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.

You will be the first point of contact for patients, supporting both clinical and administrative functions within the practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Welcoming patients and managing frontdesk enquiries
  • Answering telephone calls and signposting patients appropriately
  • Booking, amending, and managing appointments
  • Processing repeat prescription requests accurately and in line with practice protocols
  • Handling administrative tasks including emails, scanning, coding, and filing
  • Supporting clinicians with administrative duties as required
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to practice policies
  • Using clinical systems - Emis

Job responsibilities

Reception Duties

  • Greet patients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner
  • Answer incoming calls, deal with enquiries, and direct calls appropriately
  • Book, cancel, and manage patient appointments using the clinical system
  • Register new patients and update patient records accurately
  • Handle patient queries and provide general information about services

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain and update patient records in line with data protection regulations
  • Process incoming and outgoing correspondence (emails, letters, reports)
  • Scan and file documents into electronic medical records
  • Support clinicians with administrative tasks as required
  • Manage repeat prescription requests following practice procedures

General Duties

  • Ensure the reception area is tidy and welcoming
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times
  • Liaise with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff
  • Follow practice policies, procedures, and health & safety guidelines
