Job summary

As a Physician Associate you will be acting within your professional boundaries, providing care for patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care under the supervision of a GP. You will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients in consultation with the relevant GP. Your work will demonstrate improvement in patient outcomes, contributing to reduce health inequalities, improving the efficiency of general practice and delivering a best-in-class service. Mentorship and supervision will be provided by designated medical personnel. The level and type of supervision will be dependent on the post holders skills and knowledge and determined by the organisations clinical governance arrangements. You will follow recommended annual appraisals and continuing professional development set out by the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA). You will be a core part of the growing MDT, providing services to the patients registered with the GP practice.

Main duties of the job

To deliver a high standard of patient care using advanced autonomous clinical skills with in-depth theoretical knowledge and evidence-based practice working under the supervision of a GP

Youll be a graduate who has undertaken postgraduate training, Physician associates are dependent practitioners but can work autonomously with appropriate support. However, you will need to stay within the limits of your scope of practice and know when to refer to doctors and other healthcare professionals.

About us

Avenham Surgery is a city centre practice with a diverse patient population. We have a small friendly team of clinical and admin professionals who work continually to improve the health of patient population.

We are a training practice for medical students and PA and also have FY2s.

The successful applicant will become a valued member of this team and will be encouraged to participate in regular meeting with the whole team.

Carry out physical examinations

Order diagnostic tests and analyse results

Make diagnoses and clinical assessments

Carry out a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the scope of your role

Develop and deliver appropriate treatment and care management plans in consultation with patients, their relatives and carers

Organise further investigations, treatment and referral to a doctor/other healthcare professional where appropriate

Evaluate the effectiveness of care management plans

Make home visits to patients who are unable to visit the surgery/hospital due to their condition

Provide patients with advice and counselling on health promotion and disease prevention

Maintain accurate clinical records

Complete paperwork and other administration duties, including writing reports, letters and other correspondence.

You will be expected to attend practice and manager meetings when required and contribute as appropriate.
