We are looking for an organised, hardworking,
flexible, and enthusiastic Health Care Assistant / Phlebotomist to join our
friendly and supportive team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced
and compassionate individual to play a vital role in supporting our clinical
team and delivering high-quality care to our patients.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will support the clinical team in delivering a wide range of healthcare services, including:
- Performing venepuncture and collecting blood samples
- Recording and monitoring patients vital signs and observations
- Conducting ECGs and supporting chronic disease management clinics
- Supporting clinicians with minor procedures and patient care
- Carrying out NHS health checks and providing health promotion advice
- Maintaining accurate and timely clinical records
- Ensuring infection prevention and control standards are met
- Working flexibly across both Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge surgery sites
Experience in a GP or primary care setting is desirable. Knowledge of EMIS Web would be an advantage, though full training will be provided.
About us
We are a dispensing practice with a patient list size of over 16,000, operating across two sites in L S and S B. Our team includes 9 GPs, 8 nurses, 5 HCAs, and a dedicated administrative, reception, and dispensing team.

- Perform venepuncture and other blood sampling procedures safely and efficiently.
- Assist with routine clinical tasks such as blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, urine testing, and basic health assessments, NHS Health Checks.
- Support nurses and GPs where required.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient records and test results.
Patient Care:
- Provide compassionate care and support to patients, addressing queries and concerns professionally.
- Promote patient health and wellbeing, including providing advice on basic lifestyle and self-care measures where required.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to GDPR and professional standards.
Administrative Duties:
- Ensure proper handling and labelling of laboratory samples etc.
- Maintain accurate patient records, including phlebotomy results and clinical observations.
Health & Safety / Compliance:
- Adhere to infection control procedures and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Follow practice protocols, health and safety policies, and professional standards.
- Participate in mandatory training and professional development.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience as a Health Care Assistant, Phlebotomist, or in a similar clinical role.
- Phlebotomy certification and knowledge of safe blood collection techniques.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and first aid training preferred.
- Experience working in primary care, GP practices, or similar healthcare settings desirable.
