Job summary

We are looking for an additional pharmacy technician to join our great pharmacy team of two prescribing pharmacists, two pharmacy technicians and three prescription clerks. You will become an active part of the multidisciplinary team to support patients and staff in safe and effective medicine management.

Main duties of the job

The work will primarily be an administration role with remote patient contact. However we will be looking to develop this role to become more patient facing depending on experience and interest of the post holder to help patients with cardiovascular disease prevention and manage long term disease conditions.

Although this is a practice role you will get the opportunity to work with the wider pharmacy team within West of Waverley Primary Care Network and Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board with the opportunity to attend monthly meetings.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Updating and maintaining accurate patient medication records on the practices clinical computer systems, including advice given and action taken.
  • Advising the primary health care team on the safe and secure handling of controlled drugs and other medicines, ensuring compliance with medicines legislation.
  • Generating prescriptions from requests from patients.
  • Reconciliation of medicines from outpatient and discharge letters.
  • Liaising with hospital, community and primary care colleagues to ensure correct medicines are continued following transfer of care.
  • Supporting practice staff to deliver on the CQC inspections, MRHA alerts, DES contract, QIPP agenda, QOF and locally commissioned enhanced services
  • Point of contact for the practice for prescription related queries for healthcare professionals and patients
  • Implementing and monitoring the practices adherence to a repeat prescription policy
  • Conducting clinical audits as part of the multidisciplinary team
  • Implementing, in conjunction with the practice team, systems for monitoring medicines use
  • Working with OptimiseRx to ensure the practice is following local formularies to improve the choice and cost effectiveness of medicines.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Technician or equivalent
  • Be registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Desirable

  • Completed the CPPE Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway

Experience

Essential

  • Have a minimum of two years post graduate experience
  • Computer literate

Desirable

  • Experience of working in primary care
  • Experience of working in a GP practice
  • Experience of working with GP practice systems (EMIS and Docman)
