Job summary
The Dispensary Manager
will work with the management team to ensure the smooth day to day running of
the Dispensary and management of the team of four Dispensers.
Main duties of the job
Dispensing
Checking and dispensing medicines and
collection of prescription charges
Generating repeat prescriptions
Ordering stock and managing deliveries
Preparation of Nomad packs and Dossett boxes
Dealing with general enquires in person and
on the phone
Dispensary Management
Ensuring relevant vaccine / PA searches are
conducted as required and ensuring end of month claim is completed
Endorsing and collating prescription forms
Implement efficient ordering and return
processes and reducing medication wastage
Cost control and ensuring purchases are
within Drug Tariffs
Liaise with pharmaceutical company
representatives to ensure that the best discounts are achieved for the Practice
Support the Patient Services team and
clinical pharmacy team in streaming general prescription requests
Drafting, and updating as necessary, SOPs for
all dispensary tasks
Lead on MHRA drug alerts and record relevant
details to comply with CQC guidance
Ensuring local DSQs are completed by the team
Liaising with GPs and clinicians to integrate
the dispensary into the surgery
Attendance at appropriate monthly meetings
Team Management
Organising staff rotas and holiday schedules
Allocating roles and ensuring that the team
are working productively
Provide training and support on the legal,
safe and secure handling of medicines, including the implementation of the
Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
Arranging staff training and involvement in appraisals

- NVQ level 2 dispensing certificate with 2 years experience or Qualified NVQ level 3 Pharmacy technician.
- The role includes some time working independently in the practice dispensary and so it is a requirement that the successful applicant must have minimum work experience of 1000 hours over the past five years in a GP dispensary or community pharmacy and must be competent to a minimum standard equivalent to the Pharmacy Services S/NVQ level 2.
