Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Mast Primary Care Network (PCN) to join our multi-disciplinary team. We are recruiting for a newly qualified general practitioner (GP) that meets the following requirements:

  1. The General Medical Practitioners has not been substantively employed as a General Medical Practitioner in general practice previously.
  2. The General Medical Practitioner has not been employed in a temporary capacity i.e. as a locum.
  3. The General Medical Practitioner is not beyond the second anniversary of their certificate of completion of training, issued by the General Medical Council, at the start of their employment or engagement.

The successful candidate will be working across two to three practices within the PCN.

  • Starting salary depending on experience
  • Fixed term until March 2025
  • 6.5 sessions per week

Main duties of the job

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, you will make yourself available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Developing care plans for health in consultations with patients and in line with current PCN and practice disease management protocols.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collecting data for audit purposes as requested for support.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribing in accordance with the PCN and practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

The Mast Primary Care Network (PCN) consists of a group of 5 GP Practices:

  • Dearne Valley Health Centre
  • Kirkburton Health Centre
  • Lepton and Kirkheaton Surgeries
  • Shepley Health Centre
  • Skelmanthorpe Family Doctors

These practices work collaboratively together to deliver services to a population of circa 35,000 patients. Practices within the PCN are involved in clinical research studies and are training practices. The successful candidate will be working across two to three practices within the PCN. We promote a culture of continuous improvement where everyone counts, and staff are permitted to make suggestions and contributions to improve our service delivery and enhance patient care.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will be a newly qualified GP within the first two years of completing their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), with full GMC registration and inclusion on the NHS England GP Performers List. We are seeking an independent, motivated GP to provide high-quality patient care within a primary care setting. The post-holder will assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of conditions, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients across the sites they support. They will perform the full range of duties expected of a GP in primary care, working collaboratively across multiple practices to integrate effectively within each team. As a newly or recently qualified GP, the successful candidate will benefit from daily support from experienced GP colleagues. The post-holder will maintain professional accountability and responsibility for all aspects of clinical practice, adhering to GMC standards to ensure patient safety and care quality. The role requires flexibility and the ability to travel independently across The Mast PCN area to meet service needs.

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, CQC.
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
  • Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records.
  • Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data.
  • Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
