We are looking for a GP to lead our extensive Year 3,4 and 5 Medical Student programme.

This post would be non-list holding and centred around teaching medical students using our cohort of obliging patients.

Main duties of the job

  • 12 months maternity cover.

As the Medical Student Programme Lead GP at Redlands Primary Care you will benefit from:

About us

We have a growing patient population of 16,500. Our main site is a brand-new, purpose-built surgery on the Exeter side of Crediton. We also provide care from our dispensing branch in the village of Thorverton. The Crediton site is within walking distance of the local railway station.

We are recognised as being a forward thinking and innovative practice that provides a high standard of patient care. Our multi-disciplinary practice-based team includes 3 Urgent Care Paramedics, a Clinical Pharmacist led prescribing team, and a remote GP team who support with administrative work. We are also an active member of the Mid Devon Healthcare PCN with additional support from PCN ARRS staff including, a strong social prescribing team and an in-house Mental Health Practitioner.

You will be joining the team at an exciting time as we look to shape and develop services for patients from our new building and site.We are rated good by CQC and scored 96% on last years QOF report.

We offer a contract based on the BMA Model and are happy to work with the right candidate to ensure the job plan fits your needs.

Initially the post will be salaried, but we would welcome anyone who might wish to be a partner after an agreed trial period, joining our Pathway to Partnership Scheme.

We are a training practice with a GP Registrar trainer, an F2 trainer and we also host medical students. We would welcome anyone with an interest in education.

We have large numbers of medical students from Exeter Medical School, up to 12 per week across years 3, 4 and 5. The practice and teaching programme receivedexcellent student feedback last year.

This non-list holding role entails:

  • Supervising clinics (can be multiple students running clinics at one time).

  • Giving tutorials (both clinical and non-clinical topics).

  • Organising timetables in coordination with admin support.

  • Providing feedback and sign-offs for case-based discussions, mini-cex's, professionalism judgements and DOPs.

  • Support students holistically and giving feedback to the university around any concerns.

  • Engage with Exeter University UEMS team.

When students are on holiday, the role becomes a salaried GP role, or could be term-time only.

The ideal candidate is passionate about and experienced in undergraduate teaching, a teaching qualification would be ideal. They need to be organised, up to date clinically, and a good team player. They will need to be an Exeter University UEMS trainer assessor (this is a brief update course done every 2 years), ideally with experience of Exeter Medical School students.
