Thorkhill Surgery in Thames Ditton is seeking a skilled and professional Phlebotomist to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a patient-focused environment, assisting in the collection and processing of blood samples while ensuring the highest standards of care and accuracy.

We are looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented individual who is confident in performing venepuncture and can support both clinical staff and patients effectively.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform venepuncture on patients of all ages, ensuring safe and efficient blood collection.

  • Ensure all blood samples are labelled, processed, and transported correctly to the laboratory.

  • Maintain infection control and hygiene protocols to prevent contamination.

  • Provide reassurance and support to patients, including those who may be nervous or needle-phobic.

  • Accurately record and update patient information on EMIS Weband other clinical systems.

  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff to support patient care.

  • Assist in stock control and ensuring phlebotomy supplies are well-maintained.

  • Minimum 6 months experience in a phlebotomy role within a GP practice, hospital, or healthcare setting.
  • Experience handling and processing blood samples safely, ensuring proper labelling and transportation.
  • Familiarity with infection control procedures and maintaining a sterile working environment.
  • Experience in working with patients of all ages, including anxious or needle-phobic individuals.
  • Previous experience using EMIS Web or other NHS clinical systems (or willingness to learn).

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS policies, procedures, and referral pathways.

Additional

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional and caring manner.
  • Ability to work efficiently and confidently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols.

  • Phlebotomy training certification from a recognised provider.
  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD) in phlebotomy practices.
