Job description

Job responsibilities

Experience in Chronic Disease Management or willingness to undertake training.

  • Carry out Immunisations, and vaccines.
  • Undertake wound care/management/ dressing techniques.

  • Perform electrocardiography.
  • Undertake wound care/management/ dressing techniques.
  • Carry out ear examinations and syringing if necessary, following appropriate training and assessment.
  • Perform cervical screening or willingness to undertake training.
  • Administer adult and paediatric injections under an individual prescription or PGD ensuring safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccine and equipment.
  • Provide advice on lifestyle issues and support patients in changing their unhealthy behaviours and refer appropriately.
  • To administer and check coils or willingness to undertake training.
  • Deliver travel health care including vaccinations and advice for patients following appropriate training if required.
  • Recognise the signs of abuse in children and Adults, family violence, substance abuse, additive behaviours, and suicidal tendencies and be aware of local referral processes.
  • Apply infection control measures when collecting and handling laboratory specimens; disposing of waste materials, dealing with blood and body fluids spillage and report and treat sharps injuries.
  • Undertake first aid and management of emergencies (e.g., burns asthmas attacks.)
  • Undertake annual training and demonstrate competency in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques.
  • Fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risks in all areas of the practice. This will include risk assessments of situations, taking appropriate action and reporting all incidents, near misses and hazards.
  • All employees have a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions. Employees are required to co-operate with management to enable the practice to meet its own legal duties and to report any hazardous situations or defective equipment.
  • All employees are required to maintain the confidentiality of the public and members of staff in accordance with the Practice policies.
  • Update SOPs as necessary
  • To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required.
  • To provide flexible cover for members of the Nursing team during periods of sickness and apply Practice policies, standards, and guidance

  • Keep up to date with changes in clinical processes and new services.
  • Action workflow and tasks and deal with appropriate queries Maintain communication and liaise with others across primary and secondary care services when necessary.
