We
are looking for a Receptionist to join our friendly and busy team either working part-time or full-time (37.5hrs per week)
This post would suit a suitably experienced Receptionist or someone who
is used to dealing with the public, following protocols and able to respond to
situations as they arise.
Training will be provided for the successful candidate even if they do not have experience of working in a
healthcare setting but are used to dealing with the public and like a busy
working environment, and has good literacy, numeracy and IT skills. Candidates
need to have a good sense of humour, be empathetic and value good patient
service whilst able to work under pressure.
Shifts will be agreed and will cover between the hours of 8am and 8pm
Monday-Friday

Job Summary:
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. Project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors to the practice.
Provide general assistance to the practice team, liaise with multi-disciplinary team members and external agencies such as Secondary Care and community service providers.
Main duties of the job
Administration:
- To have a
thorough knowledge of all Practice policies and procedures.
- To work
in accordance with written protocols.
Reception:
- Receiving
and directing all patients and visitors
- Handing
out completed correspondence, e.g. insurance forms,
- Collection
of any necessary payments from patients or their representatives
- Dealing
with all patient and staff enquiries.
- Receive
specimens to be sent to the lab for testing.
- Receiving deliveries and liaising with colleagues to ensure goods and consumables are accounted for and safely stored away.
- Communicating
with colleagues.
Appointments:
- Responsible
for taking triage requests and making patient appointments, on the computerised appointment system clinics.
- Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately.
- Process telephone and e-requests for appointments and where appropriate signpost patients to the correct service.
Prescriptions:
- Hand out
completed and signed prescriptions, checking patient details
- Prepare
prescriptions for local pharmacies collection.
Switchboard:
- Responsible
for the smooth operation of phone lines directing calls to the
relevant recipient or taking a detailed message when appropriate.
Other Tasks:
- Training/buddying new staff.
- Any other
tasks allocated by managers.
- Open
premises when required.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times.
- Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boards.
