Job summary

Petworth Surgery have a vacancy for an experienced HCA to join our team. Come and join a practice undergoing a renovation. Beautiful rural location, small, friendly team, lovely working environment. NHS pension scheme, Blue Light Card discount scheme.

We are looking for someone enthusiastic, forward-thinking and dynamic. Must be able to do all types of dressing including compression, phlebotomy, BP, vaccinations and immunisations, ECG s, health checks - new patient and NHS, spirometry and able to do parts of chronic disease checks

Main duties of the job

Blood taking, Blood pressure checks, chronic disease reviews, spirometry, health checks - NHS and new patient, vaccinations and immunisations, all types of dressing including compression, ECG s

About us

We have 3 lady Partners, 2 Salaried GP s and a Consultant Paramedic, as well as a nursing team, an admin and a reception team. We have a Pharmacist and a Pharmacy Technician and Mental Health Workers attached to the Practice. We have high standards and expectations but are extremely welcoming and it is a lovely place to work!

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT

REPORTS TO: SENIOR PRACTICE NURSE (Clinically)

PRACTICE MANAGER/ASSISTANT PRACTICE MANAGER (Administratively)

HOURS: 30 hours per week

Job summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols and within the scope of their practice, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care, including preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Duties and responsibilities:

NHS health checks and new patient checks

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Spirometry and reversibility

Assisting the Practice Nurse with annual reviews; hypertension, CHD, Stroke and Peripheral Arterial Disease.

Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required under supervision of the Practice Nurse

When trained, administer B12 injections and flu vaccinations

Breath test, D-Dimer and pregnancy testing

Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment

Vaccine/cold chain storage monitoring and recording of fridge temperatures.

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
