Job summary
We are looking to welcome a phlebotomist to join our dynamic
and supportive team at Humberstone Medical Centre. This vacancy is for 15 to 24 hours
per week. We welcome
applicants with or without GP surgery experience. If you have the right skills
and qualities, we can provide on-going support to develop professionally.
Main duties of the job
Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the
practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for
performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled
patient population.
In addition, the Phlebotomist
will be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis.

We are a teaching practice and take GP Registrars and
Medical students on rotation.
We are part of Salutem Primary Care Network and take a lead
role in it with the previous and current Clinical Director both being partners
in the practice. Salutem PCN has an excellent reputation for collaborative
working in multiple projects and seeking to maintain high standards of patient
care in all 5 practices within it.

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels
Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system
The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
Maintaining an effective liaison with the NHS Trust laboratory staff
Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters.
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to:
Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead
Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
