Job summary

We are an innovative and forward thinking practice on the edge of the beautiful Lake District National Park, we are a large semi-rural dispensing practice with onsite pharmacy, we work in a purpose build bright modern premises providing care to 18,000 patients in Cockermouth and surrounding areas

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiasm and drive to manage the practice and actively seek opportunities to take the business forward, working strategically to make the practice successful in collaboration with the GP partners. Maximise potential in business and finance as well as achieve and maintain excellence in patient care. Ensuring compliance with statutory legal, CQC and safeguarding frameworks. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience of working in a healthcare setting, and have an understanding of General Practice income streams and regulations. Work collaboratively with our PCN colleagues, stakeholders, and local commissioners to develop initiatives and build strong working relationships. Capability to manage and be responsible for the performance of a large team. Responsible for management of all aspects of the practice, including HR management, governance, patient service delivery and financial management

About our organisation

We are a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated team comprised of 7 GP partners, 6 salaried GPs, 3 ANP's, a large skilled nursing team and allied ARRS staff.Our management team consisting of operations leads (PCN and Practice), practice accountant and finance team as well as administration and care navigation and prescribing teams.We have a strong culture of education and learning - we are a research hub and a training practice for Medical Students, GP Registrars, Foundation Programme doctors, GP Assistants and Nursing Students. We are active and collaborative role in the Cockermouth and Maryport Primary Care Network working closely together .

To manage and coordinate all aspects of practice functionality, motivating and managing staff, optimising efficiency, and financial performance, and ensuring the practice achieves its long-term strategic objectives in a safe and effective working environment. The practice business manager is responsible for:

a. Alongside operations manager overseeing the day-to-day operations of the practice, ensuring staff achieve their primary responsibilities

b. Functional management of all clinical and administrative staff

c. Joint direct line management for All Staff

d. Managing and embedding an effective succession plan for staff retention.

e. Establishing, reviewing, and regularly updating Job Descriptions and Person Specifications, ensuring all staff are legally and gainfully employed

f. Maintaining an overview of HR legislation

g. Managing the financial elements of the practice, including budgets, and seeking to maximize income and reduce expenditure

h. Managing contracts for services i.e., cleaning, gardening, window cleaning etc.

i. Maintaining an effective liaison with the accountant, overseeing practice accounts, ensuring year-end figures are presented

j. Briefing partners on all financial matters, including forecasting

k. Ensuring the practice has appropriate insurance cover

l. Developing, implementing, and embedding an efficient business resilience plan (BRP)

m. Coordinating the reviewing and updating of all practice policies and procedures

n. Leading change and continuous improvement initiatives; coordinating all projects within the practice

o. Coordinating and leading the compilation of practice reports and the practice development plan (PDP)

p. Ensuring the team reaches QOF targets (supported by the nursing and administrative leads)

q. Adopting a strategic approach to the management of all patient services matters

r. Developing, implementing, and embedding an effective communication strategy (internal and external)

s. Ensuring the practice maintains compliance with its NHS contractual obligations
