Job summary

We are looking for a motivated and organised Medical Secretary to join our friendly and supportive GP practice team. This is a part-time role (15 hours per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays), ideal for someone with strong secretarial skills and experience in referral management who is seeking flexible working in a professional NHS environment.

Youll be a key part of our admin team, working closely with GPs to ensure timely and accurate processing of referrals and clinical correspondence. While your main focus will be referral management, youll also support general admin tasks when needed, helping the wider team to provide excellent care for our patients.

This role offers a great opportunity to work in a respected and forward-thinking practice where your contribution is valued. In return, we offer a welcoming work culture, the NHS pension scheme, and opportunities for development.

If you're looking for a role where you can make a difference and be part of a dedicated and collaborative team, wed love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

In this role, youll take the lead on managing patient referrals ensuring they are accurately prepared, processed, and tracked using NHS systems. You'll liaise with clinicians and external providers to support timely care and smooth patient pathways. The position also includes typing clinical correspondence and maintaining accurate records.

While the focus is on referral coordination, you may also assist with wider administrative duties to support the smooth running of the practice. This could include handling correspondence, scanning documents, and occasionally helping with general patient queries.

Youll need to work efficiently, manage competing priorities, and demonstrate a high level of discretion when dealing with confidential patient information. Strong IT and communication skills are essential, along with previous experience in a medical secretary or similar healthcare admin role.
