Job summary

This a Phlebotomist / Health Care Support Worker role, and will be part-time for 16 hours per week over two weekdays.Early enquiries/applications are encouraged as this job advert will close early if enough suitable candidates apply.

As a Phlebotomist / Health Care Support Worker, you will provide essential support to our clinical team, assisting in the delivery of patient care and helping to ensure the smooth running of the practice. This role will involve direct patient care, administrative duties, and the opportunity to develop your skills in a dynamic, patient-focused environment.

Main duties of the job

You will be in a one to one patient facing role, recording vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate).Performing aphlebotomy service, wound care, prepare and assist patients for minor procedures and treatments, provide assistance with the collection of specimens, maintain clinical equipment,Provide patients with relevant information on health topics, lifestyle changes, and preventive care,work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff,

Job responsibilities

Patient Care Support:

Assist the clinical team in providing high-quality care for patients, including taking and recording vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate).

Perform phlebotomy (blood collection) as required.

Support patients during routine appointments, procedures, and health checks.

Prepare and assist patients for minor procedures and treatments under the guidance of clinical staff.

Provide assistance with the collection of specimens (e.g., urine, blood, etc.), ensuring proper handling and documentation.

Help patients with mobility needs and provide support for elderly or disabled patients where required.

Clinical Administration:

Assist with patient registration and manage patient records in a confidential and organized manner using practice management software (e.g. Vision / EMIS).

Ensure that clinical equipment is maintained, cleaned, and sterilized as required.

Assist with the stock control of medical supplies, including ordering and checking stock levels.

General Practice Support:

Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure the practice runs efficiently.

Assist in maintaining a clean and safe working environment, adhering to infection control and health and safety guidelines.

Ensure the practice is welcoming and patient-friendly, offering emotional support where needed.

Health Promotion:

Provide patients with relevant information on health topics, lifestyle changes, and preventive care.

Support health education initiatives within the practice, including helping with the organization of health campaigns and services.

Training & Development:

Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) and attend training sessions relevant to the role.

Undertake any other duties as required by the practice to support the clinical team.

  • Essential Qualifications & Experience:
  • Full UK Driving License and vehicle to travel between Practice branches.
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare or patient-facing role.
  • Trained phlebotomist.
  • Wound care.
  • Ability to take and record basic clinical measurements, including blood pressure, temperature, weight, and height.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and health and safety regulations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build rapport with patients, families, and team members.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently when required.
  • Basic IT skills and experience using healthcare software (or willingness to learn).

Desirable

  • Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
  • Health and Social Care qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent).
  • First Aid or CPR certification.
