We are looking for an enthusiastic
and motivated individual to be part of our experienced Dispensary Team.
The position is for 20 hours a week.
Salary
£22,379 24,336 (FTE) dependant on experience.

Main duties of the job
To process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs where
appropriate in accordance with the principles of good practice.
The post-holder will project a positive and
friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors and deal with queries
in a professional, courteous and efficient way.
Assist in the preparation and dispensing of
prescriptions medicines/appliances in an accurate and timely manner
Assist with stock control, ordering and
re-stocking of the dispensary

Sorting prescriptions, checking endorsements, preparing forms and submitting prescriptions monthly to the Prescription Pricing Authority (PPA); preparing vaccine list; dealing with prescriptions returned by the PPA
Ordering and maintaining stock
DSQS responsible for completing own training in a timely manner and in accordance with the DSQS requirements. Assist the dispensary manager in all other administration for the completion of the annual DSQS declaration to ensure full financial achievement.
Significant event reporting using TeamNet and SIRMS as appropriate.
Finance, Purchasing of stock and stock control
- Daily ordering of stock
- Check weekly automatic ordering of generic stock in EMIS
- Weekly check for any out of stock items and ordering alternatives as necessary
- Ensuring goods are correctly delivered
- Check dispensary invoices against delivery notes and record items for bonus payment, when all checks complete and any discrepancies resolved forward to finance department for payment.
- Check monthly statements
- Check credit notes against returns and chase outstanding credits
- Maintain adequate stocks and ensure shelf stock is rotated in date order
Assist in annual stock takes in dispensary, including treatment room, CD cupboard and consulting rooms
- List and price stock
- Check out of date stock monthly, record, claim and destroy as per SOP
- Ensure safe management of controlled drugs according to the practice SOP, CQC regulations and current law.
- Order and payment for vaccines not covered under GMS
- Receive payment for private work and inform finance department
Prescriptions and prescription monies
- Daily: check prescriptions for signature/endorsements and sort into paid/unpaid by doctor
- Weekly: submit all unsigned prescriptions to the partners; generating nurses prescriptions; sorting post-dated prescriptions
- Daily: cash up and balance prescription monies and any other payments taken
- Weekly: submit prescription monies to the finance department for banking
- Monthly: calculate number and value of prescription charges and check against health authority statements
Destruction of drugs
- Daily: returned medication from patients
- Monthly: check on any uncollected medication
- Quarterly: prepare returned drugs from patients for destruction
- Six monthly: conduct out of date controlled drugs destruction with the appropriate officer from the CCG
Dispensing
- Oversee/check colleagues dispensing
- Dispensing acute prescriptions
- Generating monthly repeat prescriptions for the practice, liaise with the relevant partners over any necessary changes in medication
- Collect prescription charges from patients
- Dispense private patients prescriptions and ensure full payment is made by the patient.
- Prepare MDS packs
- Check for out of date repeats on patients prescription list and alert GP to review/remove
- Ensure that Patient complaints are acknowledged in a timely manner following practice complaints policy, and report to the dispensary manager.
- Accept prescription requests from Hospitals, chemists, any other allied professions for and on behalf of patients
- Management of ostomy and nutrition requests
- Patient queries and request issues (RIs)
- Ensure workflow management of medication requests are completed and appropriate action is taken.
- Ensure workflow management of GP2GP medications and degrades/ allergies are actioned daily.
- Action treatment requests for patients who have been seen as day patients at the hospitals in a timely manner, reporting any service expectations to the dispensary manager.
- Increase number of patients using ERD (electronic repeat dispensing) for LIS
- Ensure fridge temperatures are recorded daily.
- Promote of online services to increase number of patients ordering medication online.
Contribution to the Implementation of Services:
The post-holder will:
- Be responsible for preparing and updating standard operating procedures with the Dispensary Manager
- Apply practice policies, standards and guidance
- Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
- Participate in audit where appropriate
