Job summary

Dr Raut Partnership is recruiting for a registered nurse with previous experience, training and qualifications in Primary Care.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate competencies/qualifications associated with chronic disease reviews, cervical screening and vaccinations and immunisations within a Primary or Community care setting.

Main duties of the job

The Practice Nurse role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Chronic disease reviews
  • Cervical smears
  • New patient health checks
  • Phlebotomy
  • Childhood, Travel, Occupational and Other vaccination and immunisations
  • Contraception checks
  • Any other task consummate with grade, training and qualifications

About us

Dr Raut Partnership is a high achieving medium sized Practice with a diverse clinical team including GPs, Independent Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Pharmacists. We now have a vacancy for a fully qualified Practice Nurse.

The post will be based across both our sites, in Highlands Health Centre and in Sutton Park; therefore the successful candidate must be willing and able to work at both sites.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Providing assessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice

Organise and co-ordinate the provision of nursing services for the Practice to include the delegation of duties to other Practice nursing staff, such as healthcare assistant or phlebotomist etc. as appropriate.

Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols.

Provide general and specific health screenings to the Practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary.

Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral to GPs as necessary.

Supplies and equipment Treatment room and other areas Ensure that all clinical rooms are fully stocked daily and that expiry dates of equipment are checked on a monthly basis (blood bottles, needles, dressings, vaccines and all other stock held in clinical rooms)
  • Ensure all anaphylactic boxes held in the Practice are checked monthly for expiry dates, content and damage

Ensure that clinical rooms are clean and tidy and ready for use at all times

Ensure clinical waste bins are emptied, the full bag sealed, labelled and stored appropriately (in accordance with waste management policy) and a new designated clinical waste bin prepared

Ensure sharps bins are emptied when full, sealed, labelled and stored appropriately (in accordance with waste management policy and a replacement sharps bin is constructed and labelled.

Ensure all waste is segregated according to Practice Waste Management Policy.

Pathological specimens and investigatory procedures

Following appropriate training, undertake the collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc. and ensure any equipment so used is clean, undamaged and within date.

Perform any investigatory procedures requested by the GPs in accordance with skill set and appropriate training.

Administrative and professional responsibilities

Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team.

Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes on the clinical computer system as appropriate.

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Practice.

Ensure collection, maintenance and/or completion of statistical information, audits, reports etc. as required by the Practice Management team..

Attend and participate in Practice meetings as required.

Assist in the formulation of Practice philosophy, strategy, policy, procedures and protocols.

Research projects

Co-operate and participate as required in any research projects as dictated by the Practice management team.

Student/staff education and training

Participate in the education and training of students of all disciplines and the induction of all members of Practice staff with special responsibility for nursing staff, as required by the Practice Management team.

Liaison Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other discipline, both internally and external to the Practice, with appropriate regard to confidentiality.

Professional development and performance Maintain continued education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development as specified by the Practice Management team.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring your personal training record is up to date and that all necessary training, as agreed with the Practice Management team has been completed timely.
Complete all training in the manner dictated by the Practice Management team (e-learning, attendance at courses etc.)
