Job summary
We are looking for a Medical Secretary to join our friendly team for 25 hours per week. Ideally, working Monday to Friday with exact start and finish times to be agreed with the successful candidate.
Previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be given.
Main duties of the job
- The main purpose
of the post is to work as part of the medical secretary team to provide
administrative support for clinical staff and the Practice Management Team, to
process all patient registrations and deductions and to do a share of the
scanning and document processing.

The surgery serves 9,000 patients in an urban/suburban area. Spacious premises
with ample staff parking.
Our large and friendly team currently includes 2 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, 3 Advanced Clinical Practitioners, a highly skilled nursing team, Practice Manager, Assistant Practice Manager and a large team of administrative and reception staff.

This includes: the HomeHealth dedicated care home team led by ANPs and access to a whole range of other specific roles to include clinical pharmacists; a Therapy team including OTs; Social Prescriber; Health and Wellbeing coach; Admission and Discharge Care Coordinator and Musculoskeletal Practitioner Service.

- Arrange referral appointments for patients.
- Ensure all dictation is dealt with promptly and efficiently.
- Monitor the cancer referrals to ensure all are received and actioned quickly.
- Administration attached to the AQP Community Surgery Scheme clinics and
the level 1 Minor Surgery clinics.
- Attend regular eRS meetings on behalf of the practice.
- To enter all patient registrations onto the clinical system and process all patient deductions, along with the administration of all associated paper and electronic elements.
- To take a share of opening all incoming paper post and scanning, along with the document processing of all post, to include EDD documents and electronic letters.
- To carry out ad-hoc administrative duties for the Practice Management Team.
- Minute taking for any practice meetings.
- Perform any other duties that arise, considered appropriate to the post.
