Job summary
The Glen Medical Group are looking for an experienced Healthcare assistant (20-30 hours) to join our nursing team to provide excellent, high quality care to our patient population.
Main duties of the job
We strive to promote the best care for our patients, in the management of long-term conditions and the proactive provision of preventable health care. We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and proficient HCA to join our nursing and practice team. Our nurses and HCAs work collaboratively within the practice team to meet the needs of our patients.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake specified clinical activities and tests for named patients, within the scope of established clinical protocols, policies and procedures, including phlebotomy, urine testing, blood pressure readings, ECGs, health checks, non complex wound care and vaccinations.
About us
The Glen Medical Group is a busy training practice with approx 11,000 patients. We have 5 GPs, 3 trainee GPs, 1 Advanced Nurse practitioner, 1 Pharmacist, 3 Practice nurses, 1 Nurse associate ,1 Health care assistant. We also have various attached PCN staff such physios/pharmacists and social prescribers based at the practice. All of these roles are supported by our Reception/admin team who play a vital part in the day to day running of the practice.

Job responsibilities
- Undertake new patient health checks
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
- Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
- Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
- Carry out BMI checks as directed
- Act as a chaperone as required
- Undertake Phlebotomy
- Administer flu vaccinations
- Carry out ECGs as requested
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
- Provide support during minor operations as required
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
- Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
