Wigton Medical Practice is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, conscientious and motivated Health Care Assistant to join our fantastic multi-disciplinary team. Ideally, you will hold the Skills for Care Certificate or equivalent or have proven experience in this role.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will support the nursing team and deliver a range of clinical care within the scope of your role.
You will have a calm, confident and helpful manner with excellent communication skills along with the ability to problem solve and work under pressure. You will be educated to a good standard and must have excellent IT skills.
You will need to feel comfortable with technology, and also with change since the NHS is required to constantly change to meet the emerging needs of our population.
Main duties of the job
The role of a Health Care Assistant is well established within our nursing team and has been developed over the years to provide a wide range of clinical and support services.
Within a clearly defined job role you will be able to work autonomously as well as assist other clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in a wide range of clinical services including venepuncture, blood pressure monitoring, urinalysis and ECGs. In addition our Health Care Assistants also carry out injections and vaccinations against a specific schedule and support our Diabetic services being able to undertake Diabetic foot checks. You will have a good working knowledge of infection control, safeguarding and the importance of clear and accurate record keeping.

Working as part of the Practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will support the nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, delivering care within their scope of practice. The post holder will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of preventative care, health promotion and patient education.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Urinalysis
- Preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory
- Measuring and recording following physiological measurements in routine presentations:
- Pulse rate and rhythm
- Temperature
- Height and weight body mass index
- Routine and 24hour Blood Pressure monitoring
- Venepuncture
- ECG
- Administer vaccinations for flu, shingles and pneumonia
- Administer B12 injections
- Delivery domiciliary services in the community
- Provide support during minor surgery and women's health sessions as required
- Ordering/maintaining stock levels and control in treatment area.
- Prepare and maintain environments during and after patient care interventions
- Perform NHS Health Checks
- Ensure fridges are monitored and cleaned in accordance with relevant guidance
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
- Support the in-house services for long-term conditions
- Provide chaperone services for patients and clinicians
- Assist in raising awareness of health and well-being, and how it can be promoted and deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
- Record information and activities undertaken with patients and carers in an accurate and timely fashion using manual or computer systems as appropriate
