Job summary

We are currently looking for a friendly and efficient Receptionist to join our team. By joining us, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our mission of delivering exceptional healthcare to our patients.

As a GP Receptionist at Islington Central Medical Centre, you will be the first point of contact for our patients and visitors. You would ensure patients have access to appropriate services and healthcare professionals.

You will also provide general support to our practice team and project a positive and professional image to everyone, whether in person, on the phone, or through email.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service, welcoming patients, and visitors with a friendly approach.

Handle all general inquiries, explain procedures, and schedule new and follow-up appointments with precision.

Utilize your excellent judgment and communication skills to prioritize urgent consultation for patients with no prior appointments.

Explain practice arrangements and requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensuring all procedures are completed.

Receive and manage telephone calls, diverting them appropriately and taking detailed messages.

Scan paperwork onto EMIS Web, maintaining accurate records.

Enter patient information into our computer system accurately and promptly.

Ensure the premises are opened and closed securely and according to protocols.

Register new patients onto the computer system promptly and accurately.

Complete administrative tasks as per the rota system and support other team members as needed.

Maintain confidentiality at all times with due regard to telephone conversations and conversation between members of staff in public places.

  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in basic Word, Excel, and email applications is required.
  • Ability to work within processes and procedures and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to progress.
  • Previous experience in the NHS is welcome but not essential.
  • You should be able to communicate kindly and professionally with a wide range of people.
