Job summary

Are you an experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner with Primary Care and management experience who enjoys working collaboratively?

If so, we have an opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner to manage and develop our large nursing team.

Main duties of the job

You will be passionate about the health and wellbeing of our student population, and will want to lead and further develop a nursing team delivering high quality NHS services to our patient population, including looking at other nursing disciplines to enhance our existing team.

You will work collaboratively with our staff in order to support students to achieve a successful academic outcome and develop skills for achieving and maintaining a healthy life. As a member of our management team, you will take part in the overall strategic development of the service.

About the Department

The University Health Service is an NHS GP practice which supports the health needs of the students of TheUniversity of Sheffield. We deliver a range of NHS services which have been developedin order to provide a tailored service.

The team at UHS consists of a number of GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants,all supported by the reception and administration teams. In addition the Practice also directly employs orengages a number of roles as part of the Primary Care Network contract. UHS is a single entity PCN.

  • Strategically and operationally lead the nursing team, anticipating opportunities which will enhance the delivery of safe and effective patient services.
  • Be an advocate for nurse-led services, at practice, Primary Care Network and City level.
  • Directly line manage the nursing staff to ensure that they have the skills, support and motivation to carry out their work, while contributing to the overall aims of the service.
  • Be aware of and contribute to planning and delivery of practice-based commissioning, both at practice and Primary Care Network level.
  • Work closely with other members of the management and administration team to ensure maximum uptake of screening and immunisation opportunities.
  • Evaluate service delivery of nursing services, including urgent care delivery, as well as contributing as part of the management team to wider access evaluation and service redesign. Propose developments and innovations that enhance appropriate patient access.
  • Determine priorities in order to contribute to long term planning around workforce and resource deployment.
  • Undertake and/or participate in maintaining protocols and attend meetings where appropriate to keep informed.
  • Develop and maintain network links with fellow professionals in the wider community.

Clinical Duties

  • Provide a first point of contact within the practice for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems, making use of skills in history taking, physical examination, problem solving and clinical decision-making, to establish a diagnosis and appropriate management plan.
  • Undertake triage, online, telephone and face to face, for patients seeking access to services.
  • Provide safe, evidence-based, cost-effective, individualised patient care, referring patients directly to other services/agencies as appropriate.
  • Occasional work out of hours to support vaccination campaigns, health promotion campaigns and other events within the University.
  • Maintain a knowledge and understanding of data governance issues.
  • Engage with the practice clinical governance framework, including safeguarding, significant event reporting, whistleblowing and duty of candour policies.
  • Maintain and update own professional knowledge in areas of practice and pass on new skills/knowledge that will be of benefit to the whole practice team.
