Job summary

City Road Medical Centre has a vacancy for a hardworking, enthusiastic, friendly Practice Nurse.

The nursing team member would be working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team that are all enthusiastic and hard working to deliver high quality care to our community. The practice nurse would work alongside our senior practice nurse and form an important pillar of our team to ensure that high quality caring services are delivered effectively to our patients.

The practice promotes an empowering culture with a focus on a holistic approach to general practice with opportunities for development, innovation and to improve patient care.

Main duties of the job

To promote and maintain high standards of nursing care in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Guidelines for Professional Practice

To provide childhood and travel immunisations, cervical cytology.

To plan and run health promotion and long-term condition related clinics.

To directly communicate with patients on matters relating to their ongoing health needs and personalising their care.

To ensure that patients have high quality assessments made of their healthcare needs.

Facilitate patient referrals to appropriate clinical services

To liaise with other disciplines and outside agencies with a view to providing holistic healthcare.

To participate in the delivery and evaluation of healthcare services at the Practice through meetings, working groups and regular liaison with colleagues

To be responsible for the ordering, safe systems, and processes, storing and administering of all medicines/drugs

To undertake and participate in clinical audit projects as necessary

Respond to medical emergencies

Ensure that the principles of Infection Control are always adhered to.

To have a good awareness of issues concerning safeguarding.

To act as the Infection Prevention Control (IPC) lead and to work to the IPC Policy providing audits, training, support and compliance.

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with valid NMC registration
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Experience in primary care, community nursing, or general practice
  • Competence in:
  • Chronic disease management (e.g. asthma, COPD, diabetes)
  • Immunisations and vaccinations
  • Cervical cytology (smear tests)
  • Wound care and dressings
  • Knowledge of:
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Safeguarding (children and vulnerable adults)
  • Clinical governance and audit
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills
  • IT literacy (EMIS, SystmOne or similar clinical systems)
