Full Time Practice Nurse – Cardinal Medical Practice

The Cardinal Medical Practice (formed as a result of a recent merger between Chesterfield Drive, Deben Road and Norwich Road) have a great opportunity for a Practice Nurse to join us at this very exciting time. We have recently implemented a demand led way of working using AskmyGP, which has received fantastic patient feedback and we are keen to hear from Practice Nurses who are interested in working differently.

As part of Suffolk Primary Care, Cardinal is the largest Medical practice in Suffolk providing GP services to over 30,000 patients across Ipswich and as part of our ongoing plan for further growth, we are also progressing a move into a new purpose built facility in 2024.

Main duties of the job

JOB SUMMARY:

To provide nursing services to patients on the practice list, including assessment, advice within the professional competence of the post holder, screening and treatment. Extra training will be provided before new duties are undertaken. The post holder will work in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Main Purpose of Post:

1. Provides care directly to patients without referral via another senior nurse or doctor.

2. To undertake general nursing duties within the nursing team, including:

· Immunisations

· Cervical smears

· Contraception advice & pill checks

· Travel advice

3. To participate in chronic disease management

4. To work to practice protocols and guidelines.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provide general and specific health assessment and screening to the practice population (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary.

· Advise patients on general health and minor ailments with referral to general practitioners as necessary.

· Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols.

· Provide advice, information and statistics to the Practice Operations Manager on matters relating to or affecting the Practice Nursing function.

· Implement a systematic approach to care, to include efficient and accurate record keeping for the benefit and safety of patients/clients, continuity of care and professional security.

· Assist with the development of work practices within agreed policies to provide the optimum standards of care.

· Participate in the Practice supervision strategy.

· Participate in the development of integrated information to meet management requirements.

· In participation with the Practice Operations Manager, ensure the maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care

· Undertake any other professional or management responsibilities as required and appropriate to the post.

· Carry out specific duties and responsibilities to maintain nursing sessions.

· Pathological specimens and investigatory procedures

· Following appropriate training, undertake the collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment used. Perform any investigatory procedures requested by the GP
