Job summary

Llanilar Health Centre is based in the beautiful village of Llanilar, only 6 miles from the University town of Aberystwyth, close to the beautiful Cardigan Bay coastline and the Cambrian Mountains.

We are looking for a GP to join our team to provide outstanding care to our diverse population of 3400 patients.

We are a high achieving practice who offer a friendly work environment with a team of two GP Partners, a Salaried GP, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacy Technician, HCA, Phlebotomist and which benefits from an onsite dispensary. Our reception and dispensary team are highly efficient, friendly and helpful.

Main duties of the job

Our practice operates a Telephone first appointments system but also offers pre-bookable appointments for non urgent problems. We are looking for a GP who can provide an efficient and friendly service to a diverse range of patients.

About us

The practice is also part of Cambrian Primary Care which is a Federation of 4 GP practices based in Ceredigion, which serves a population of approximately 17,000 patients. It was formed in 2016 so that Practices can work together to develop services for patients, share skills between the surgeries, jointly employ staff and provide strengthened general practice services in Mid Wales. 

Its vision is to improve patient outcomes by promoting the sustainability and resilience of the GP Practices in North Ceredigion. By developing different ways of working together and delivering services jointly, patients will be able to see a greater number of different types of health care professionals in their home or local surgery. These different healthcare professionals include Nurses, Pharmacists, Advanced MSK Physiotherapists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Associates who will often see patients from more than one surgery.

Job Summary:

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

This post requires the holder to have an excellent understanding of and identification with the ethos of the Practice and to demonstrate this in their professional behaviour and their dealings with the public.

The post holder is directly responsible to the Partners/Practice Manager for all organisational and administrative issues.

The post-holder will provide GMS services, managing a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. GP’s with special interest are welcomed.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
