Job summary

We have an opportunity for a Part time Dispenser at the Practice based at Cookley.

The position is for 29 hours per week and hours are as follows:

Mon 8-18.30 = 10

Tue 13.30-18.30 =5

Wed 9-18.30 = 9

Fri 13.30-18.30 = 5

Main duties of the job

As part of the Dispensing Team the post-holder is expected to provide a professional service to both patients and doctors; maintain an efficient and courteous manner as a team worker, assist with all routine administrative duties of the practice to ensure a smooth patient/doctor relationship in the primary health care setting.

The role includes assisting in the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions; maintaining accurate records; ordering and re-stocking of the dispensary.

The post holder is expected to work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of the patients, ensuring that practice policies and procedures are followed, including all Dispensary Standard Operating Procedures and ensuring compliance with CQC Essential Standards of Care.

Aylmer Lodge Cookley Partnership is a large GP practice working across 2 sites. Our smaller site in Cookley is a Dispensing Practice. We can dispense to all patients who live in the village or live more than 1 mile from a community pharmacy.

Reporting to: The Partners & Practice Manager

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of the Dispensing Team the post-holder is expected to provide a professional service to both patients and doctors; maintain an efficient and courteous manner as a team worker, assist with all routine administrative duties of the practice to ensure a smooth patient/doctor relationship in the primary health care setting.

The role includes assisting in the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions; maintaining accurate records; ordering and re-stocking of the dispensary.

The post holder is expected to work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of the patients, ensuring that practice policies and procedures are followed, including all Dispensary Standard Operating Procedures and ensuring compliance with CQC Essential Standards of Care.

Key Tasks:

1.0 Dispensing

1.1 Issuing of stock items and prepared prescriptions.

1.2 Dispensing and checking repeat prescriptions.

1.3 Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions.

1.4 To handle controlled drugs maintaining security and keeping the controlled drugs

register in line with practice standard operating procedures.

1.5 Checking with GP’s or in patient records if concerned about the appropriateness of

requests for medication.

1.6 Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements.

1.7 Handling prescription money and operating/balancing the till.

2.0 Stock Control/Storage

2.1 Ordering drugs using the computer link to the wholesalers and unpacking deliveries.

2.2 Operate efficient stock control to ensure the continuity of patient supplies and

minimise wastage.

2.3 Ensure all drugs received are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with

the manufacturers’ instructions.

2.4 Ensure refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature.

2.5 Maintain the temperature control record/logbook reporting any cold chain incidents

immediately in line with practice policy.

2.6 To ensure all required medication review letters, forms, leaflets etc are available for

use.

2.7 To assist in completing stock checks.

3.0 Patient Facing

3.1 To deal with queries from patients, district nursing team and other practice staff regarding patient’s prescriptions.

3.2 Participate in reception work as required as part of the dispensing process.

3.4 To check patients eligibility for being a dispensing patient and to advise of processes for processing exceptions.

3.5 To advise patients of the eligibility requirements for the practice to be able to dispense.

3.6 To wear staff uniform and observe the practice dress code.

4.0 Quality and Continuous Improvement

4.1 To support the requirements of the dispensing doctors scheme.

4.2 To participate in the Significant Event Audit processes for the practice.

5.0 Premises

5.1 To keep the dispensary work area tidy.

5.2 To regularly clean work surfaces and shelving and ensure all dispensary

equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.

5.3 To report any issues of equipment breakdown and safety/risk within the practice to

the Practice Manager without delay

6.0 Team working and Communication

6.1 To communicate and work effectively with all team members both within the practice

and externally.

6.2 To be available to cover for colleagues absences and work overtime as required.

6.3 To recognise and understand the role and responsibilities of individuals working in the practice team.

· Training and Development

7.1 To take responsibility for own developmental and training needs, including

participation in practice training events and appraisal processes.

7.2 To attend practice meetings including team briefings as requested.

7.3 To be familiar with practice policies, protocols and standard operating procedures
