Job summary
The Nurse Practitioner will work alongside GPs and other allied clinicians, undertaking patient triage and minor illness clinics. You will line-manage Practice Nurses and HCAs, and be responsible for the overall cohesion of the nursing team. You will provide leadership, as well as carrying out general and specialised nursing care. You will oversee the smooth running of the department, ensuring clinic processes are developed and and followed.
Main duties of the job
You will undertake patient triage and minor ailment clinics, liaising with senior clinicians as appropriate, and take the required action when a significant medical emergency occurs. This may include
investigating, prescribing and referring patients to other agencies
General practice nurse work may include wound and ulcer care, injections, phlebotomy, cervical screening, contraceptive care, ECG readings, and warfarin management
You will actively
participate in monitoring and audit of quality standards to ensure
patient safety at all times
You will undertake chronic disease management involving monitoring and patient
education to promote self management
You will attend clinical meetings and lead the learning on occasion
You will lead the nursing and HCA team, undertaking yearly appraisals and overseeing annual leave bookings
You will support the
training of F2 doctors
You will liaise with
outside agencies, such as health, social and voluntary agencies, and other
surgeries in our primary care network, and attend meetings of the local nurse forum.

- Diploma or Degree in Nursing
- Qualification in Minor illnesses/minor injuries or significant, relevant A&E/WIC/UCC experience with evidence.
- Diploma of Family Planning
- Prescribing qualification will be essential

- Recent and relevant post registration minor illnesses/injuries nursing experience at Band 6 level or above
- Recent and relevant post registration Primary Care nursing experience at Band 6 level or above
- ENB 997/998 or SLICE qualification or equivalent
- Experience of managing triage and minor illness/injury and management of common conditions, including patient education on prevention and future management
- Evidence of continuing professional development - portfolio
- Proficient in conducting comprehensive health needs assessment and developing care plans unsupervised
- Working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of SystmOne or similar electronic notes system
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office & Web based information sites.
