Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and reliable prescribing clerk to join our dedicated and friendly medicines team. You will be working in a busy and demanding environment and therefore need to be highly organised with a sense of urgency. Knowledge of working with prescriptions would be an advantage. The ideal candidate will have excellent organisational and strong inter-personnel skills, while being flexible and committed.

Hours of work should reflect general practice hours 37.5 hours per week within 8.00am to 6.30pm. Job-share and flexible hours will be considered

Main duties of the job

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Will be required to work on reception desk on a rota basis dealing with medication requests and queries from patients.
  • Manage the towns prescription lines
  • Management of the Practice Medicines Managers task box
  • Process patients repeat prescriptions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with our medicines team, GPs/ANP, patients and local community pharmacies
  • Be the main point of contact for patient enquiries regarding their prescriptions
  • Make calls to and receive calls from patients, pharmacies and healthcare professionals
  • Identify where medication reviews and other aspects of patient care are due and help organise this work.
  • Support the management of the medicines hub email system
  • To undertake general routine safety audits to support the clinical pharmacist and GPs with the medication review process.
  • Support the repeat prescribing for identified vulnerable patients and act as their point of contact for medication queries and request.
  • Have excellent communication skills and speak to our patients in a caring manner, you will need to be able to work on your own and to prioritise your work.
  • Answer the telephone promptly and politely to both patients and the clinical team on behalf of the pharmacy team
  • To undertake administrative tasks resulting from the prescribing process
  • To work in accordance with the practice prescribing policy at all times.
  • To ensure alerts are placed on patients notes relating to any prescribing issue
