Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and reliable prescribing clerk to join our dedicated and friendly medicines team. You will be working in a busy and demanding environment and therefore need to be highly organised with a sense of urgency. Knowledge of working with prescriptions would be an advantage. The ideal candidate will have excellent organisational and strong inter-personnel skills, while being flexible and committed.

This is a key role assisting the clinical and administration team at the Workington practice in organising patient care and helping to ensure that medicines are issued in a safe and timely manner.

Hours of work should reflect general practice hours 37.5 hours per week within 8.30am to 6.30pm. Job-share and flexible hours will be considered

Main duties of the job

Will be required to work on reception desk on a rota basis dealing with medication requests and queries from patients.

Manage the towns prescription lines

Management of the Practice Medicines Managers task box

Process patients repeat prescriptions accurately and in a timely manner.

Work closely with our medicines team, GPs/ANP, patients and local community pharmacies

Be the main point of contact for patient enquiries regarding their prescriptions

Make calls to and receive calls from patients, pharmacies and healthcare professionals

Identify where medication reviews and other aspects of patient care are due and help organise this work.

Support the management of the medicines hub email system

To undertake general routine safety audits to support the clinical pharmacist and GPs with the medication review process.

Support the repeat prescribing for identified vulnerable patients and act as their point of contact for medication queries and request.

Have excellent communication skills and speak to our patients in a caring manner, you will need to be able to work on your own and to prioritise your work.

Answer the telephone promptly and politely to both patients and the clinical team on behalf of the pharmacy team

To undertake administrative tasks resulting from the prescribing process

To work in accordance with the practice prescribing policy at all times.

To ensure all cancelled prescriptions are correctly audited on the EMIS system and destroyed accordingly

Link/liaise with local strategic groups (e.g. ICCs/PCN) to ensure work is aligned with local health and wellbeing priorities.

Establish positive working relationships and effective communication with the Workington GP Practices, integrated care health and care teams, and a range of local voluntary sector and community organisations.

Utilise and demonstrate sensitive communication styles to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment.

Communicate effectively to overcome communication barriers with patients and the public displaying emotional crisis, vulnerability, verbal/physical aggression, learning difficulties, recognising the need for alternative methods of communication.

The ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both written and oral, displaying an awareness of the needs of the patinets and making reasonable adjustments to communicate effectively

Ability to cope with frequently challenging, diverse and stressful situations.

Admin & Professional

To use highly developed knowledge and skills to provide high standards of patient centred care.

To maintain accurate contemporaneous records on all aspects of the care process and patient contact.

To ensure that all project paperwork e.g. performance information is completed and available in a timely manner.
