Main duties of the job
Reception
Receiving
patients and booking appointments at the Reception Desk.
Monitoring
the waiting room and guiding patients to rooms.
Dealing
with queries from patients asking for repeat prescriptions.
Sorting
prescriptions into alphabetical order ready for collection by patients.
Handling
cash for private treatment/work.
Administration
Making
appointments by telephone, handling requests for home visits and taking
messages.
Dealing
with queries from patients asking for repeat or acute prescriptions.
Processing
patients change of address and have knowledge of the Practice area.
Retrieve
and file medical records ensuring strict alphabetical order is adhered to.
Other Tasks
When
last to leave at the end of the day, ensure that the building is secured, alarm
activated and that all electrical equipment is switched off.
Use of Equipment
Reception
staff should be able to use general office equipment such as photocopier, fax
and franking machine.

Estuary Group Practice is a thriving training practice in the west of Swansea. We have a growing population of 20,500 patients to whom we provide healthcare services across our three sites in Gowerton, Penclawdd and Gorseinon. The practice is proud of our experienced cohesive team of 15 partners working with 1 salaried doctor, 2 practice nurses, a healthcare assistant, a practice pharmacist and a paramedic supported by over twenty non-clinical staff.
We provide a diverse range of enhanced services to our patients (such as minor surgery and contraceptive services). We have for many years been a training practice for GP registrars, and we also teach students.

Hours of duty: Part time (27.5 per week,
Monday to Friday). Two shift patterns available - 07:45 - 13:15 or 13:00 - 18:30
Accountable to: Practice Manager
JOB SUMMARY
To act as medical administrator dealing with receiving patients, making appointments,
and dealing with requests for visits and taking messages. Willing to work
across all 3 sites.
EXPERIENCE AND
SKILLS Candidates should be educated to GCSE standard. Proof of qualifications will be
required. Candidates should have a good
telephone and reception manner, be able to use a computer and have good
keyboard skills. We are particularly keen to hear from staff currently working general practice or who have previous experience. Being aware of the rules of patient
confidentiality is essential for this post.
