Assistant Medical Secretary

Job summary

Assistant medical secretary to be based at our main site at Gowerton Medical Centre. This is a permanent, part-time position. 22 hours weekly, to be worked from 10:00 - 14:30 daily, Monday to Friday. The post-holder will be expected to cover any annual leave and sickness absence.

Main duties of the job

1.Assisting the medical secretary in her role, by support in the following areas as well as cover for annual leave and sickness.

2.Use the surgery Vision and Lexacom systems to type referral letters, reports and any associated documents in a timely manner prioritizing urgent work where appropriate.

3.Process referrals via the WCCG system, being aware of rejected referrals or responses back from the system.

4.Send any information to the patient as requested by the doctors, via email, text message and post

5.Check for rejected/outstanding referrals on WCCG system.

6.Communicate effectively and efficiently with patients and staff alike in a timely, professional and appropriate manner.

7.Any other duties as requested by the doctors relating to the processing of referrals.

About us

Estuary Group Practice is a thriving training practice in the west of Swansea. We have a growing population of 20,000 patients to whom we provide healthcare services across our three sites in Gowerton, Penclawdd and Gorseinon. The practice is proud of our experienced cohesive team of 14 partners working with two practice nurses, a healthcare assistant, a practice pharmacist and 2 physician associates supported by over twenty non-clinical staff.

We provide a diverse range of enhanced services to our patients (such as minor surgery and contraceptive services). We have for many years been a training practice for GP registrars, and we also teach students.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • RSA/OCR Stage III or equivalent in word
  • processing.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, to
  • include Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • packages.
  • Good standard of education.
  • Knowledge of medical
  • terminology.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous secretarial experience

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a GP practice.

Skills

Essential

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
