Job summary

Widcombe Surgery, located in the beautiful city of Bath, is seeking to employ a part-time Practice Nurse Manager to enhance our clinical team. The salary will be commensurate with experience.

As a well-established and friendly training practice, Widcombe Surgery boasts a dedicated clinical and administrative team. We are looking for a Practice Nurse Manager to lead our established nursing and HCA team.

Our clinical team includes GPs, a Paramedic Practitioner, clinical pharmacists, first contact physios, nurse practitioners, nurses, and HCAs. The practice is supported by an experienced administrative team, which includes secretaries, administrators, care coordinators, and receptionists.

Main duties of the job

Job Responsibilities: Leadership, Personal and People Development

  • Clinical Leadership:Act as a clinical leader in delivering nursing services, ensuring patient needs are prioritised.

  • Team Leadership:Guide the nursing team in implementing local guidelines, protocols, and initiatives.

  • Role Promotion:Advocate for the nursing team's role in care provision.

  • Meeting Participation:Engage in practice team meetings and conduct nurse department meetings.

  • Learning Environment:Foster a learning environment with a no-blame culture.

  • Infection Control:Oversee infection control initiatives, ensuring compliance with guidelines.

Job summary:

The Practice Nurse Manager at Widcombe Surgery is a pivotal role responsible for leading the nursing team and ensuring the delivery of high quality, patient centred care. This role involves strategic planning, clinical oversight, and operational management to enhance patient outcomes and support the practice's objectives. The Practice Nurse Manager will work collaboratively with GPs, healthcare professionals, and administrative staff to foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management:

Provide visionary leadership to the nursing team, promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

Conduct regular team meetings, performance appraisals, and professional development sessions to ensure staff engagement and growth.

Develop and manage staff rotas, ensuring optimal coverage and efficient resource utilisation.

Mentor and support nursing staff, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.

Clinical Operations:

Oversee the delivery of nursing services to include:

  • Meeting patients nursing care needs as identified, or where care has been transferred to the nurse by a GP or other senior clinician.

  • Initiating and maintaining health screening and promotion clinics for identified areas of the practice population, recognising when referral is necessary.
  • Deliver nurse led care including:

  • Contraceptive pill checks
  • Leg Ulcer management including Doppler assessments and compression therapy
  • Contributing to the management of long-term conditions, such as Asthma, Hypertension, CHD, Diabetes, COPD
