A vacancy has arisen for the role of a Healthcare assistant (HCA) at Grosvenor Medical Centre. The role is within a friendly, flourishing and supportive practice based in Tameside, Greater Manchester. We are seeking an applicant who can demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm and who will work closely with the GP Partners and staff to deliver excellent patient care within the context of a friendly and dedicated team.

Main duties of the job

We are ideally looking for an experienced Healthcare Assistant, and General Practice experience would be desirable. A flexible and friendly personality is essential, with patient centred care as a priority.

About us

We are a small, friendly practice situated in Stalybridge, Tameside. We have 6 part time GPs, 1 Advanced Clinical Practitioner, 1 Practice Nurse, 2 Pharmacists, 2 Health Care Assistants and a group of 10 administrative staff who help in the smooth running of the practice.

We have a practice list size of 6500 patients.

We work closely with external parties including the district nursing team, Macmillan nurses and chronic disease nurses to help delivering in patient care. We have support from our Primary Network colleagues.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To assist medical personnel in the care of Practice patients to include treatment, preventative care, screening, and patient education. The post will also include some administrative duties.

They will act as a focal point of communication between patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the primary health care team.

Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team. To support the practice nursing team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

The right candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills for dealing with our diverse patient population and be able to work well in a close-knit team of both clinicians and non-clinicians.

You will have an understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for very strict confidentiality.

The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and training. Training will be offered where required.

Undertake new patient health checks.

Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes.

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately.

Carry out BMI checks as directed.

Act as a chaperone as required.

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.

Provide support during minor operations and in family planning clinics as required.

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy.

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.

Carry out ECGs as requested.

Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.

Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes.

Attend and participate in practice meetings as required.

When trained, administer injections.

When trained, undertake venepuncture.

Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the GP Partners or Management.
