Job summary

A GPA will be responsible for providing high-level administrative support to Eden Primary Care Network, including sorting and actioning clinical post, coding clinical information, managing referrals and appointments, and liaising with external agencies. Supports efficient record summarisation and completion of basic forms. Work collaboratively with the PCN teams to streamline communication processes and assist with coordinating PCN-wide initiatives.

Main duties of the job

The role involves managing and prioritising clinical post for GPs, including signposting items to appropriate clinicians and handling routine correspondence such as DNA and 2WW letters. It includes extracting key information from clinical letters for coding, organising appointments, tests, referrals, and follow-ups, and completing basic non-clinical sections of forms for GP approval. The role supports referral processing, liaising with external agencies, and ensuring accurate summarisation of medical records. It also involves working closely with the PCN administrative team to maintain coordinated communication, taking minutes, circulating actions with timely follow-up, and assisting in the organisation of PCN-wide initiatives.

Interviews will take place on 16 December at Temple Sowerby Medical Practice.

The GP Assistant (Admin) provides high-level administrative support to Eden Primary Care Network (PCN). The role focuses on managing clinical correspondence, supporting GPs with administrative tasks, and ensuring smooth coordination across the PCN.

Core Responsibilities The GPA sorts and prioritises clinical post for GP action, directing items to other clinicians when appropriate. They extract relevant information from clinical letters, coding and entering this into patient records. Routine correspondencesuch as DNA notices and 2-week-wait lettersis handled directly.

KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Previous experience working in a GP practice
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • Willing to work towards GPA certification and complete within a set timeframe
  • Previous experience using EMIS web

Desirable

  • Demonstrates basic factual knowledge of field of work
  • Awareness of principles of: GDPR / Data Protection Health & Safety At work Confidentiality Safeguarding
