Job summary

Are you interested in a role as a salaried GP in a friendly, long established, multi-disciplinary team with a strong focus on training future GPs and Pharmacists? Such an opportunity has arisen given the practice is expanding in terms of list size and breadth of services provided. As a member of the team you would join the 4 partners and 5 salaried GPs committed to the delivery of quality services including a full range of enhanced services, local centre for Vasectomy procedures and clinical provision to the North Cardiff Cluster Urgent Primary Care Centre (UPCC). The practice also works collaboratively with Cardiff University with an established branch surgery, Park Place Surgery, based on campus. As a practice team we have created a positive working environment evidenced by the fact several of our current GPs arrived as trainees and have never left!!

The post is available from January 2024 for a 7 month fixed term period, 4 - 6 sessions a week with flexibility regarding contractual days. The successful candidate must be fully registered with the GMC and be listed on the Cardiff and Vale performers list for general medical services.

Informal discussions welcomed and a visit to the practice to meet members of the team encouraged.

Main duties of the job

You will work as an autonomous General Practitioner, within an established supportive multi-disciplinary team, delivering an excellent standard of care aligned with the GMS contract whilst adhering to GMC standards for good medical practice.

Given Roath House Surgery is a training practice and host placements for Foundation Doctors, medical and pharmacy students, you will have opportunities to contribute to the teaching ethos of the practice.

Flexibility regarding contractual sessions is available and the importance of work/life balance is supported with 8 weeks holiday (pro rata)

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will manage a patient caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical responsibilities:

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, referrals and correspondence in a timely manner.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self- referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.

Providing counselling and health education.

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Collecting data for audit purposes.

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions

Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

Ensuring that all work carried out which carries a private fee is properly recouped and accounted for e.g. Medical Reports, Insurance reports, private letters to 3rd Parties etc.

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities with the Practice:

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.

A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.

Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records.

Contributing to the summarising of patient records and accurate Read-Coding of patient data.

Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
