Job summary

Haresfield & Kempsey Surgery is pleased to advertise this exciting opportunity to join our dispensing surgery. We are seeking an organised, proactive and motivated individual, ideally with NVQ Level 3 in dispensing, or NVQ 2 with a desire to train to NVQ Level 3, to join our Kempsey Surgery.

You will work alongside Pharmacy Technicians and under the direction of the Lead GP/Clinical Pharmacist to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients.

To provide medicines-related and healthy lifestyle advice to Patients as well as assisting in the smooth operation of the Dispensary.

Main duties of the job

  • Take and process prescription requests in line with Practice procedures.
  • Select and label pharmaceutical products in accordance with a prescription by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and complying with all legal requirements. Whenever there is doubt surrounding the appropriateness of the item, the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising Doctor, Duty Doctor, Advance Nurse Practitioner or Pharmacist
  • Ensure the safe and correct transfer of dispensed items to patients, ensuring correct prescription charges are collected and prescriptions are filled in and completed correctly.
  • To accurately maintain Patient Medication Records (PMR) to ensure patient safety and in accordance with data protection requirements.
  • To identify medicine related problems or queries and bring these to the attention of a more senior dispenser, pharmacy technician, pharmacist, GP or clinician.
  • To answer queries on the supply and availability of medicines
  • Promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the Practice Manager
  • Receive stock in accordance with SOPs

Job responsibilities

Liaise with other healthcare professionals to assist in the continuity of patient care across primary and secondary care.

Ensure all dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order. All work surfaces are cleaned and tidies on a regular basis.

Assist with service provision to any care homes and to include the preparation of Monitored Dosage Systems.

Proving Dossett boxes for our Care Home

Refer to a more senior dispenser/practice pharmacist/Advanced Nurse Practitioner/GP.

Assist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by carrying out reasonable duties as determined by the business (this may include delivery of medication).
