Role Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our team at Stanhope Mews West. The Healthcare Assistant will play a crucial role in providing support to our healthcare professionals and delivering excellent patient care.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant in a GP surgery or similar healthcare setting is highly desirable.
- Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent are preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues.
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and infection control procedures.

Main duties of the job
Your responsibilities would typically include (but not be limited to):
Clinical Tasks: you will perform a range of clinical tasks under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. This will include taking and recording patients' vital signs (such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse), performing simple wound dressings, ECGs, collecting specimens for testing, and conducting basic health checks.
Phlebotomy: Drawing blood samples from patients (phlebotomy)
Health Promotion: You will play a key role in promoting health and wellbeing among patients. This can involve providing advice and information on topics such as healthy lifestyle choices, smoking cessation, and vaccination programs.
Administrative Duties: You may also assist with administrative tasks within the practice, such as maintaining patient records, booking appointments, and ensuring that clinical areas are clean and well-stocked with supplies.
Vaccination and Immunisation: particularly during flu season or as part of national vaccination campaigns.
Patient Support: provide reassurance and support to patients, particularly those who may be anxious or in discomfort. Help to create a welcoming and supportive environment within the practice.
Continuing Professional Development: You will be encouraged to participate in training and continuing professional development activities to enhance their skills and knowledge. This may include attending courses, workshops, or seminars relevant to your role.
About us
Stanhope Mews West Surgery is a large general practice in South Kensington, with a list of around 16,000 patients. We are part of Brompton Health Primary Care Network.
We have a team of 12 GPs (four of whom are partners), four nurses, 2 HCAs, and 14 admin/reception. This is a workplace where every voice matters, and challenge is welcomed.
Stanhope Mews West Surgery is a training practice. We currently have two GP trainees, and often host medical students and other trainees. Many of our GPs were trained here and have chosen to stay.
We are the lead practice for asylum seekers in the primary care network, and are an accredited Veteran Friendly practice.
Several team members have local leadership roles with the ICB and the PCN, and we support them to carry out these roles in addition to their practice roles.
