The key function of this role is to work with other team members to process all
relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where
appropriate in accordance with the principles of good practice.
To liaise between
patients and GPs, solving problems, answering queries, and providing essential care to our patients.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities and duties of this role are:
To ensure that all medicines and appliances are checked against the prescription screen on the computer and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
To take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time.
To maintain full and accurate records of all prescribing transactions
To undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient repeat prescribing service.
To update and maintain accurate patient medication records on the Practices clinical computer systems including advice given and action taken.
To help plan, develop and support the introduction of new working processes within the Practice to optimise the quality of prescribing.
- Following practice guidelines assisting the prescribers with patient medication reviews
- To be responsible for training other members of the team to perform the task of repeat prescriptions
- To deal with day to day queries that patients may have surrounding their medication and if necessary liaising with the GP/duty doctor
- Booking of hospital transport
- Dealing with hospital requests

- Ideally, you will have experience dealing with NHS Prescriptions, either within a General Practice setting or a community or NHS Pharmacy situation.
